New Turn (Chie)

this is a bit of how things went on wednesday april 26th of 2006. i was talking with chie online and decided this just had to be a painting. lucky for me, she agreed.

Red: hi tom... im at work doing almost nothing Black: hows the music Red: music's good. Black: hey chie - purple post-its - what do you like to do when you have great idea and they're within picking up distance? Red: .. i like post its. i just made a semi-disco ball from cut up mini cds and super glue (: Red: i used to have a wall calendar of post its.. Black: oh nice! Red: the super sticky ones are excellent Black: oh yes Black: and very sticky! Red: hehe.. but they don't fall off the way the normal ones do. good for wall calendars Red: i have so many postits at home.. i think i like to have them more than use them Black: i know what you mean Red: the postit glue stick is nice Black: on the table in my studio and stacks of them Black: all different colors Black: *are Black: not and Red: yeh my pull out draw had several rows of them arranged in a rainbow gradient Red: *drawer* Black: oh thats a good slip Red: haha Black: they're fun to draw on Red: or to assign emotions to inanimate objects Black: ah say more Red: at work, i label my computers with the names of ancient deities.. and my pens and boxes and monitors etc with stuff like "angsty" "disillusioned" "hungry" Black: : ) i quite like Red: haha Black: at one of my salon i used them while i was making one of the conversation portraits Black: we could play around with what words went in the painting and where they would go Red: haha Red: that sounds fun Black: hahaha yes it was! Black: fun actually was the very last word in the painting! Red: (: Black: fun was our end Red: i wish there were more color varieties though Black: in post its? Red: yeh.. then i'd do a mosaic or something Black: that would be great Red: (although i could just use normal notepad squares or colored paper and post it glue but..) Black: i'm going to be talking with their tech team in about 2 weeks i'll ask them about making more colors Red: yay (: Red: i think the super stick should be standard though.. the regular sticky are awful. Black: no!!! i like them because i can play around with where to stick things Black: it helps me get my compositions just right Red: but the super sticky peel of nicely.. they just dont fall off in a good breeze Red: i guess you put them on paper? Black: yes Red: <-- puts them on the wall and plastic stuff Black: ... and on the back of the seat in front of me when im drawing people on trains Red: haha Black: ah yes Black: plastic stuff you need the super sticky Black: chie i want to make a painting! Red: *wonders how to respond* Black: how much time do we have to talk - do you have a half hour? Red: i actually have been itching to paint too. i have a friend who does good counterfeits, and she's going to teach me Black: we could make a podcast painting Red: podcast? Black: yea im making paintings for people's ipods now too in additional to the ones just for walls Red: the cover of them ipod? Black: its the same idea - the red and black conversations but you can hear the voices because its audio Red: HAHA Black: :-) Black: do you have itunes? Red: yes and no. im on a linux box Black: oh fun - very pioneering! Red: hehe i think my co workers would be a little weirded out were i to start randomly talking Red: haha i like linux. Black: hahaah yes they might be Black: what's a good time for when we can make a painting for the podcast by phone if you want to do that? Black: ok if you have itunes open Red: i don't think i should d: whenever i know my voice is going somewhere i get high pitched and nervous. Black: aw Red: d: *the most stage frighted* Black: thats ok i understand Black: i was totally that way Black: but you perform music though - just not singing voice type music Red: although karaoke doesnt bother me Black: hahaha Red: actually i do sing.. Red: d: Black: oh i didn't know Black: i remember you mentioned violin Red: but it's all about the setting. yeh i sing, play violin and guitar now Red: or and taiko drumming Red: not or, oh Black: oh you should do a podcast then for your music Red: hahaa but seeeeeeee Black: its a great way of getting stuff out there Red: im not ready for that/ Red: i just hang out with my friends and sing while their attention is on something else Black: aren't we ready as soon as we're born? Red: but then life makes you nervous Black: ah yes and then art and doing things brings it all back into perspective Black: the nervous nerves get bathed in music and color Red: (: Black: actually hahah Black: the most recent podcast i did - my guest played an impromtu tambourine solo Red: haha Red: on my spring break road trip, i stopped at a cracker barrel and couldnt resist buying a harmonica Red: but they only had them in the key of C Red: i can play one song (just like on piano, one song, except that pianos are much larger and expensive) Black: hehe Red: are your other conversations with random online people like this? Black: do harmonicas come in lots of other keys as well? Red: not a lot, but a few, since you can't cover all 12 tones in a single key Black: well it actually started offline - with these interactive drawings i was doing with people Black: then it kind of moved online - but yes lots of random Black: random is fun Red: good, this is more like a normal conversation for me, but less of a normal online conversation. Red: and nothing like a phone conversation at all. Black: oh i like how you broke it down into categories Black: so 1 is normal conversation Black: 2 is online which isn't like normal conversation Black: and then coming in at number 3 we have phone which isn't at all like the other 2 Black: which is most abstract do you think? Red: d: [i'm not a phone person (i have 4000 rollover minutes, woe woe)] abstract in what sense? Red: topically or in it's own right Red: because topically speaking, my real conversations have the most abstract topics and they jump subjects frequently Black: yes i like my paintings most when that happens Black: the topic jumping thing Black: like going from super sticky post-its to talking about harmonicas and figs Red: people tell me i'm add, but it certainly isn't something tats presented itself as a problem Black: can this be a painting? it feels like one Black: no exactly! Red: haha, if i get to see it Black: nothing is a problem unless someone else gets us to see it that way Black: sure! Red: mm have you ever smoked clove cigarettes? Black: nope Black: you? Red: they make your lips taste sweet. Black: like chapstick? Red: not like that.. chapstick is.. Red: waxy and untasty Red: (i am particular about my lipbalm) Red: which is where..? Black: so clove cigarettes leave your lips feeling sweet but without the untasty waxiness of chapstick Red: yes (: Red: i like mixing olive oil and honey Black: wow the calligraphy you sent over is beautiful Red: thanks (: Red: i think it's the best i've done Black: very! Black: you can feel a brush making that all at once Red: art is fun Black: i'd have to agree with that Black: it can hold anything Black: even eternity itself Red: (: Red: i was looking in my middle egyption dictionary yesterday Black: how many turns in eternity? Red: hm Red: one and many? Black: at least more than 50 and yes still one Red: i wish i had a graphics table Red: t Black: so e turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn is still the same as one Red: (: Red: yeh. Black: oh i forget to add the ity part Red: although the math part of my mind is in disagreement Black: got carried away with all the turning Red: haha Red: circles and figure eights... Black: yes big circles enclosing everything Red: http://hieroglyphs.net/0301/cgi/lookup.pl?ty=en&ch=e&cs=0 look at the second definition for eternity.. Red: cat is cool too, pronounced "m'iou" Black: wow really? Red: eternity is pronounced "neghegh" or something. if i remember my class right Red: im getting a ride home Black: since this is a painting i should let people know that we're talking about hieroglyphs here Red: haha Black: have a great ride chie! Red: if i had a tablet i could draw them for you Black: this has been a good one Black: let me get this up on the blog and then dinner Red: i wrote "i am a beautiful cat" on my mirror in glyphs.. jnk pw miw nfr Red: have a good night Black: :-) you too Red: thanks for the convo Black: a pleasure
