Red Ruby Tuesday -last night from this morning (Amy la)

wow its been a busy summer. This is a bit of a painting (and a new print too actually) that i'm going to call Red Ruby Tuesday because today on the train i heard a musician singing just that and the words "good bye ruby tuesday who could hang a name on you? when you change with every new day still i'm going to miss you" really resonated. this is something i was lucky enough to put together with Amy La who i first had the pleasure of meeting when i drew her on a train to Connecticut this summer. It's about last night's Generation Engage event with President Bill Clinton, flowers and philanthropy. This is the full raw text (fast typing typos and all) of what will become the finished print. Hope you enjoy it. - tom

Black: good good morning amy la Red: good morning t-dawg hehe Red: how are you? Black: ah i like! Black: haha Black: good Black: got to see my president give a great talk last night at an event our friends put together Red: how is everything? sorry i haven't answered my IMs lately. i keep forgetting to put up an away message Black: quite a good night Black: oh you! Black: a good funny thought provoking away message is every im'er's first responsibility Red: haha i know Black: you have to let us know you're 'away' Red: one of my favorites of mine is "...I'm talking about Pot. In the Tagalongs." Black: hahah Red: which is quoted from one of my favorite blogs, http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/ Black: here's one a friend has up now Black: 'how many peas are in a pod bec?' Black: "oh i dunno ... like 8 or 10" Black: 'no way thats true' Black: "oh ya, i sued to grow peas. in fact i once won a contest and everything..." Red: lol Black: hah Black: nice pictures on that blog Black: i thought that was willow in the layered multicolored dress but its not Black: but very pretty and willow like just the same Red: haha Black: amy do you have love for mr. bill? Black: you konw that very presidential guy Red: hm? Black: bill clinton Red: i def have love for bill clinton Red: lol Black: i have to make a painting about last night before all that i remember fades away Red: what did you do lastnight? Black: then would you could you would you please be my red person? Red: sure! Red: Black: i went to an event that generation engage put together to hear bill clinton give a talk Black: and what a talk Black: oh can't wait to see your red today Red: it's funny how the analogy of red & blue is relating to our conversation today Black: ah Black: what color is your type now? Red: my actual type is a nice plum color Black: maybe it doesn't need to be red -is that Black: hmmm Red: but my screen name is appearing as blue to you.. which is good because i'm a democrat lol Black: Black: Hi i'm tom Plum: hi Black: hah Red: you could keep me as red, i don't mind Red: ahhh the symbolism of colors Red: anyway, talk about bill clinton! Black: glorious color Black: yes! Black: he gave a very inspiring talk Black: about what can be done Black: what everyone right now in america in particular can do with all that is around us Black: he spoke about talking more with people in your communities Black: he spoke about becoming involved in the local and larger decision making process Black: he spoke about light bulbs! Black: he spoke about all of the things we can think of to power our transportation so we can get from one place to another Black: and he spoke about this amy Red: yeah? Black: he spoke about this crazy gadget we have right here called the internet Black: the event was being simulcast live to two generation engage hotspots where large groups were assembled Red: hot Red: but you saw him live? Black: yes indeed Red: that's fabulous Black: i only wish i had the opportunity to speak with him Red: i think everyone has a crush on bill clinton Black: we did get a good smile across though Black: i'm a straight man and i sure do Black: that's da man Red: haha!! Black: haha Red: one second, i have to write out a memo Black: i mean he has no curves and pretty eyelashes and all the usual great girl stuff Black: but he has unbelievable magnetism Black: oh ok Black: everyone - amy has to write a memo and then she'll be right back Black: i'll eat a few bites of oatmeal in the meantime Black: ... with raisins Red: mmm RAISINS Red: back to my memo Black: oh Black: hah Black: everybody amy is studying all that diplomacy stuff down there in washington where lots of stuff happens Black: and right now she's drafting a memo Black: it's not known at this time what the contents of the memo will be.. Black: or to whom Black: but i'm filling in the blanks here in blogland paintingland Red: I'm actually writing an announcement for my school's newspaper to advertise my sorority's philanthropy event Black: very nice Black: philanthopy is great stuff Black: that's got lots of love in it Black: love of thropy Red: I know! i love me some volunteering Black: what's thropy again? Red: thropy? Red: i don't believe it's a word, unless you mean the root Black: ya Black: i like roots Red: i saw the roots in concert Red: now we're playing word association Black: woo Black: that's what i really like Black: letting words fly whereevery they want to Black: like messy paint on a canvas Black: alright so while we wait for amy dc la to finish up her philanthropic memo i'll tell everyone about generation engage Black: well a bit about them Black: they a group that steve and i are very proud to be doing some work with - it's all about finding new ways to get young people involved - engaged in the just the kind of things that mr. bill clinton was talking about last night Black: being an active voice Red: what way would you like to help? Black: making politics - fun Black: you mean steve and me? Red: yes Black: we've been doing a little fundraising and some public relations for them Black: we were able to set up an interview for two of the group's founders cate edwards and justin rockefeller on air america radio Red: yeah air america! Black: and yes! Black: you're a listener there in dc? Red: not as much, i get bad radio reception in my room Black: the internet! Black: streaming at airamericaradio.com Red: fabulous Black: oh yes Red: you should sell this painting to make money for them Black: i really miss lizz winstead's intelligence and humour in the mornings though Black: great idea Black: can we put the flower in it? Red: shall we integrate it in? Black: if its a painting of you it needs the Black: yes Black: ok i'll be your hair now... Black: hi i'm amy's hair Black: la la la Red: hey hair, you've been really frizzy lately, stopmit Red: *stop it Black: huh? Black: me? Red: it's been raining so much and i can't control you anymore Red: i'm going to cut you off soon Black: but i want to be freeeeeeeeeeeee Black: ! Black: *terror* Black: *sadness* *bewilderment* Red: don't worry, i'm giving you to someone with no hair so they have something to put flowers in too Black: oh now this is some complex painting indeed Red: haha Black: hah Black: i never know whether i should leave the laughter in Black: ok though before we run out of room Red: it's very silly, i think it adds Red: yes Black: tell us all about your love of bill and of what you're doing philanthopically Black: first the love of bill though Red: i love me some bill clinton because he's one of the best representatives of the democratic party i've ever seen publicly Red: it makes me happy that he is a representative of something with which i agree because he's fantastic Black: and democratic ideal too Black: ideals that is Red: and philanthropy? Black: yes Black: what are you doing there? Black: most people think sorority girls just party all the time Black: so this is good Red: i know, not us, i joined to do philanthropy Red: we raise money for a national organization that is similar to make-a-wish Red: but our money goes directly to kids in our area Red: so we're helping sick children in the community Black: your own backyard so to speak Red: indeed Red: personally, i love philanthropy because... Black: that's really fantastic amy Red: i think because i hope that my helping others will make better people Red: and putting a smile on someone's face is possibly the best feeling ever Black: the inspiration principle Black: well what was the first step you took in that direction? Red: when i was younger? Red: or in college Black: i'm the kind of artist who likes really big paintings so your choice Black: haha Black: but i like the idea of starting small Red: I did a lot of random service projects throughout middle school... in high school i planned a bunch of charity events at my school Black: who's example do you follow for these kinds of things Black: how did you know that you could make that kind of a difference to people lives so early on? Red: I'm not really sure, i just kind of did it Red: i would say my family Red: they all are teachers Black: ah nice Red: i guess i've grown up thinking it was easy to help people Black: my girlfriend amy's family all have the same profession too - they're all in the medical profession Black: nice Red: yeah, that sense of helping others seems to run in my family Red: my sister is in med school and i'm doing diplomacy Black: you know i think that probably is because... it kind of is easy Red: helping people? Red: in some ways yes, in some ways no Black: surely not medical school Black: hah Black: yes Red: some people will accept help Red: others don't think they need help Black: but the part of it that starts small - at desire Black: i think that's like the seed that just needs to get to grow Black: so it can one day become a flower Red: fabulous circumlocution! Black: wow fabulous word! Red: +5 for you Black: boom Black: t scribby in the house Red: holla lol Black: i told you - i had to get that flower in there Black: haha Black: alright is this our painting? Red: great! Black: oh yeah :-)
